IRPA President Participates in HPS Annual Meeting
IRPA President Renate Czarwinski participated in the annual meeting of the US Health Physics Society (HPS) July 22-26, 2012 in Sacramento, California. She made a presentation on behalf of IRPA in the plenary session "Consistency in Radiation Protection Standards". More information on this can be found in the cover story in the Health Physics News. President Czarwinski also addressed the HPS Board of Directors. Among the subjects discussed were:
- IRPA’s vision is to become the International Voice of the Radiation Protection profession
- Promotion of excellence in the enhancement of radiation protection culture and practice worldwide
- Achievements in collaboration with associate socieities, in particular the Guidelines on Stakeholder involvement and Code of Ethics
- Continuing work on Radiation Protection Culture, and efforts to make System of Radiological Protection more user friendly and more understandable for a wider audience
- A proposal to organise a North American Workshop on Ethics/Safety (RP) Culture/Stakeholder involvement jointly organised by HPS, IRPA and ICRP
- Increasing engagement of younger radiation protection professionals
- Reinforcing the role of associate society delegates, who have a key role to play over the four year period between IRPA international congresses
