The Italian Association of Radioprotection (Associazione Italiana di Radioprotezione, AIRP) promotes scientific and cultural actions in the field of protection against ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. AIRP was founded in 1958 and is affiliated with the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA). The Association consists of ordinary, aggregate, honorary, collective and international members, involved in the many aspects of radiation protection: research, studies, teaching, surveillance and controls. The selective admission of members is made by requesting to the Board of Directors of the Association. The Association holds regular national Congresses and Conferences, Study Days and Round Tables on topics of particular interest. In 1983, AIRP established the "Carlo Polvani" Radioprotection High School which organizes advanced and specialized courses on current national and international issues.
