The Mexican Radiological Protection Society (Sociedad Mexicana de Seguridad Radiológica, SMSR) was founded at the beginning of the decade of 1960, with the purpose of bringing together the professionals of the radiological safety of the country. In its first years, mainly professionals working in medical applications were integrated because there was a certain increase in the use of ionizing radiation in these disciplines. Over time, professionals from other sources, including the industrial area, the area of research, training, nuclear power and, of course, the regulatory area, were coming closer, without missing the legal area. The SMSR has organized 25 congresses and work meetings in different squares of the country. It has links of approach with other professional societies such as the Mexican Society of Nuclear Medicine and the Mexican Nuclear Society. With the latter, joint congresses have been organized in recent years.
